40 years ago today, Marlin "The Magician" Briscoe started at quarterback for the Denver Broncos, and in doing so became the first African-American to start at that the helm in the NFL. Briscoe also went on to become an All-Pro wide receiver for the undefeated '72 Dolphins. A quick search reveals painfully few mentions of this anniversary. One ESPN writer describes Briscoe as "one of the game's often-overlooked pioneers" less than a week ago, but still the four-letter neglected any legitimate mention.
